Major Diamond-producing Countries

While diamonds can be found all over the world, there are a few major diamond-producing countries that account for the majority of the world's diamond production in 2021.

Russia is the world's leading diamond producer and accounts for a quarter of the world's diamond production (39.12m carats). The country is home to some of the largest diamond mines in the world

Botswana is the second-largest diamond producer in the world (22.88m carats) and is home to some of the highest-quality diamonds. The country has a long history of diamond mining and is known for its large-scale operations. The majority of the diamonds produced in Botswana are sold to De Beers, a leading diamond company.

Canada is the third-largest diamond producer in the world (17.62m carats) and has a number of famous mines which are known for producing high-quality diamonds. The Canadian diamond industry is also known for its commitment to sustainable mining practices

DR Congo is the fourth-largest diamond producer in the world (14.09m carats). However, the diamond mining industry has faced a number of challenges, including conflict, corruption, and environmental degradation. In recent years, efforts have been made to improve the transparency and accountability of the diamond mining industry and to ensure that diamonds are ethically and sustainably sourced.

South Africa is a major diamond-producing country (9.72m carats). The country's diamond deposits are located in the Kimberley region, where the first diamond was discovered in South Africa in 1867.

In addition to these major diamond-producing countries, there are also significant diamond producers in countries such as Angola, Namibia, and Zimbabwe.
